Gradonačelnik Milan Bandić zapalio je prvu svijeću na Adventskom vijencu na Manduševcu na Trgu bana Josipa Jelačića i tako označio početak Adventa. Obred je predvodio mon. Zlatko Koren, kanonik Prvostolnog kaptola zagrebačkog.
U godini koja je poljuljala naš osjećaj sigurnosti i koja je promijenila način na koji gledamo svijet, budimo sigurni u ovo: svi zajedno, u međusobnom pomaganju i solidarnosti, možemo iz ovog izići kao još jači i bolji ljudi.
Neka nam ovo Došašće bude upravo ono što treba biti – priprava za Božić u skrovitosti, razmišljanju, molitvi i beskompromisnoj brizi za drugoga. I na kraju, vratimo se još jednom na papino geslo u povodu 4. svjetskog dana siromašnih – „Pruži svoju ruku siromahu“, bolesnom, onom koji je na ulici, ali i svakome kome je pružena ruka potrebna – onako neumorno kako to ovih dana čine naši hvalevrijedni sugrađani, kazao je gradonačelnik Bandić.
